Genesee Township Solid Waste Program

At the Regular Monthly Meeting held Monday June 4th at 7pm at the Township Building, the Board of Supervisors in attendance reviewed and discussed the Solid Waste Garbage Program. After much discussion with the community members in attendance and in consideration of the Solid Waste Committee findings presented at the May Town Meeting, the board passed Resolution 6 of 2018 which states the following:
1) Annual $50 Garbage Assessments will NOT be charged for 2018 year and the program will run on the current fund balance to pay budgeted appropriations. (This assessment will be reviewed again at the 2019 Organizational Meeting.)
2) Garbage Bag weight limit set at 30 lbs/bag, garbage stickers to remain at $2.00/sticker.
3) ALL Garbage bags left for pickup will have to have a sticker, NO CASH PAYMENTS ON BAGS ALLOWED.
4) Bags exceeding the weight limit or with no sticker will be GREEN TAGGED and marked accordingly for the reason why and left for the resident to remedy.

Garbage stickers can be purchased at the Genesee Township Office, Reed’s Market or Acorn Market. (previously purchased stickers will still be accepted).

Residents are asked to NOT bring garbage bags to the Township Building throughout the week. Bags that are left in the trailer are often needed to be removed for use of trailer and animals are destroying the bags throughout the week and littering grounds with garbage. Garbage pickup is MONDAY mornings, with the exception of when the Potter County Solid Waste Authority is closed for holiday. Residents utilizing garbage pick up are asked to not leave bags out for pickup all weekend long as animals are destroying bags along roads and leaving litter on ground and the crew is not responsible to pick up this garbage. If garbage must be placed out before 7:30 am on Monday, please utilize a storage bin to ensure that garbage is secure from animals.

Residents are reminded that the recycle bin located at the Township Building is free to use for all residents and not only helps our environment, but can decrease garbage expenses if utilized. Accepted at recycle bin are: Plastics 1 & 2 (without lids), non shiny Cardboard, Aluminum Cans, Rinsed Clear and Brown Glass, Newspapers/Magazines
